Eyes on Owls
Students at Charlton St. School were recently visited by some very special guests. Do you want to know whoooooo? Marcia and Mark Wilson, owners of Eyes on Owls, presented their program which included various owls from both New England and other parts of the world. Students viewed a slide show about various owls,their habitats and adaptations, food chains, predator-prey relationships and more. Students imitated owl calls and were able to see the owls up close. Please enjoy the slide show of this fun presentation. Thanks to the Southbridge P.T.A. for this learning experience!
Green Science Comes to CSS Students in Mrs. Kenda's grade 2 class recently displayed science projects. They created their own inventions with recycled materials. Students made life cycles and habitat projects as well as book reports.

Frog and Toad Kids Students at Charlton St. School and West St. School gave an outstanding performance of A Year With Frog and Toad, a musical based on the Frog and Toad children's stories written and illustrated by Arnold Lobel. The musical followed the adventures of two friends, a toad, Reginald Rushin, and a frog, Evan Donovan, along with their animal friends, over the course of a year. Congratulations to all performers and Mrs. Celeste Brackett, grade 5 teacher at CSS, Mr. David Heath, music teacher at WSS, and Mr. Chris Rubenacker, music teacher at CSS, and all the parents and teachers who worked tirelessly to give this stellar performance!
Ecotarium Field Trip Second grade students at Charlton St. School recently had a field trip to the Ecotarium in Worcester. The field trip was sponsored by the Hyde Dexter Charitable Foundation. Students, teachers, and chaperones viewed the museum, animals, and attended the showing of the Planetarium’s Earth, Moon, and Sun program.
Charlton St. School held "Crazy Clothes Day" on Monday, April 1. Students wore their clothes backwards, inside out, and had clothing that was mismatched. Pictured below are Daralyn Peck, Kristin Verdieck, and Destiny Bolduc-Riccardi.
Student Achievement in Wilson Reading Program Students at Charlton St. School were recognized today for their achievement and hard work in the Wilson Reading Intensive Instruction program taught by Venus Kane at Charlton Street School. Mrs. Kane teared up while announcing each student to receive an award for completing Step 6 which will now lead them into the advanced next steps. She said they are the first group to get this far. Joining Mrs. Kane in presenting the students with their awards were Mr. Montigny, Principal and Karen Ryan Director of Reading, Emily Mantineo and Kathleen Cadarette, Instructional Support Specialists. Charlton St. School students recently participated in Music in the Round, an event sponsored by Southbridge Public Schools to celebrate National Music in Our Schools Month. Band and choruses were present from all the schools in the district. CSS and WSS bands joined together to perform "Hot Cross Buns", "Au Claire de la Lune", and "The Handclappers March". performing songs we have been practicing the past few weeks. The CSS Chorus sang "Stand By Me".

at the Worcester Art Museum Art students from Central Massachusetts have been selected to display their creative works at the Worcester Art Museum during the month of March. This multi-media exhibit is sponsored by the Massachusetts Art Education Association as part of Youth Art Month, a national celebration to emphasize the value of art education for all children and to encourage support for the quality art programs in Massachusetts' schools. The Youth Art Month Exhibit will be on display through the month of March. Art teachers from 35 cities and towns have volunteered their time to make this event possible. The students from Charlton Street School, under the direction of teacher, Mrs. Kathleen Small are representing the town of Southbridge in this year's Youth Art Month exhibit at the Worcester Art Museum. These young artists are: Amelie Jarvis, grade 3, Renee Estella Aroujo, grade 4, and Jacob Moore, grade 5. |
