Math Night at CSS
Charlton St. School held its Math Night on Wednesday, January 27. Students and their guests participated in various math activities, including estimation jars and raffles of various math games. Over 110 families attended this fun filled evening.  Congratulations to the following winners:  Estimation Stations-Emmanuel Rojas-crayons, Ivan Camacho-cards, Isabella Diaz-puzzle, David Adorno-dice, Kaleb Morales-dominoes, and Tristan Garcia-pipe cleaners. The Math Game winners were Ella Ulinski- I Sea 10, Oscar Vazquez-Head full of Numbers, Jaiana Bradley-Clumsy Thief, Lillian Deuyour-Pizza Fractions, and Jacob Powaza-Yatzee. Thank you to the dedicated faculty members and caregivers that made this night possible.
Winter Concert
Charlton St. School held its annual Winter Concert on Wednesday, December 23. Parents, caregivers, and guests were entertained with a variety of songs by students in grades 1-5 and a concert by our band. Students were also visited by a special guest who arrived to the song "Here Comes Santa Claus". Can you guess who this visitor was?  Hint: Ho Ho Ho.
MCAS 240 Club Recognition Dinner
CSS had its 240 Club Recognition Dinner on Monday, December 7 at Southbridge Middle High School. About 250 students and their guests were served a pasta and meatball dinner made possible from the many donations of various companies. Students were then presented with certificates of recognition. Students become 240 Club members when they attain a proficient or advanced score on the MCAS. Congratulations to all our members! A very special thanks to Lisa Giardiello for organizing this incredible event!  Another special thanks goes to Mrs. Sheryl Stanton for entertaining us all with her melodic voice. I also want to thank Bill Lataille for helping to organize, Colleen Culligan for her support, Nick Billis and his food service team for cooking and helping prepare the food and setups, Jacob Maldonado for videotaping the evening, custodial staff for helping to clean, Interim Superintendent Tim Connors for speaking and assisting with the awards, Bill Bishop for his closing remarks, and the following teachers and staff for taking the time out of their evening to help serve the food and clean up after the dinner: Michelle Alder, Michelle Caplette, Melyssa Cournoyer, Megan Harrington, Paula Kenda, Beth Champney, Venus Kane, Sue Pontbriand, Brigitte Cassell, Darcy Pratt, Dennis Lataille, Deb Morrill, Maria Fontaine, Jen Bouckaert, Cheryl Thompson, and Margaret Sbordy. Most importantly, Charlton St. School needs to extend sincere thanks to Pastene of Canton, MA, Big Bunny Market, Polar Beverages, Bay Path Regional HS culinary department, BJs, and Big Y. Without their generous support this event would not have been possible.
Family Literacy Night
Charlton St. School held a Family Literacy Night on Wednesday, November 18. Students and their caregivers listened to fairy tales, myths, and nursery rhymes in the Reading Rooms, played literacy games, and participated in drawing activities. Mrs. Mantineo read her favorite childhood book to the students. Prizes were awarded at the end of the evening which included a Butterball Turkey, a Barnes and Noble Gift Card, 2 AMC Theater Gift Packs, The Widow’s Broom,  a Big Bunny Gift Certificate,  and a Central Pizza Gift Certificate. A fun time was had by all.
Veterans Day
Charlton St. School held its annual Veterans Day program in honor of all  veterans and servicemen and women. This annual program enhances the curriculum in several areas: reading, writing, social studies, and the arts. It was held on Tuesday, November 10 and was a huge success. Many thanks to all our attendants, performers, and speakers.

October Box Top Winners
Congratulations to Juliana Ditrocchio for being the  Box Top collection winner for September/October. Juliana collected 242 boxtops! The classroom winning the traveling trophy for both September and October is Ms. Zimon's 3rd grade class.

Fire Prevention at CSS
Southbridge Firefighters Gary Peck and Jonathan Parrettie visited schools in Southbridge on October 14, during Fire Prevention Week. Students were educated on the importance of fire safety and prevention. Students were reminded that smoke detectors should be checked to make sure they operate efficiently and to make sure to have an escape route planned which includes an outside meeting place.
International Walk to School Day
Charlton St. School joined students around the world in celebration of International Walk to School Day on Wednesday, October 7.  Teachers and students joined forces for a brisk morning walk to school.
Summer Reading Incentive Program Awards
Students at Charlton St. School that participated in the Summer Reading Program were recently rewarded with prizes donated from Southbridge Savings Bank. Students had a chance to win a Kindle Reader, $15 Barnes & Noble gift cards, $10 I Tunes Gift Cards, and award gift bags.  Pictured below is the  grades 1-3 grand prize winner Aubri Dubie with Southbridge Savings Bank’s Vice President Loan Officer Ron Cooper. Aubri won a Kindle Reader, Barnes and Noble gift card, and an award bag. Grade 4-5 Kindle Reader winner was Alexia Conrad. Also pictured below, top right, are the winners from Grades  1-3 and bottom right are the winners from grades 4-5 with Superintendent Bliss and Mr. Ron Cooper. Congratulations to all the winners and to all the students!
      Reading Game Winner

Congratulations to 3rd grader Craig Bouchard of Charlton St. School for being declared a winner of the 2015 MTA Red Sox Reading Game.  Craig and Mrs. Champney, his second grade teacher, both received a pair of tickets to the Red Sox Game at Fenway Park to be held on Saturday, September 5.  The Reading Game is one of the Massachusetts Teacher Association’s most successful literacy programs, enlisting students across Massachusetts to read thousands of books. Thank you to Mrs. Champney for distributing the entry forms to her students and to help promote summer literacy.

Students and staff returned to school on Wednesday, August 26 to begin a year filled with learning and high expectations for all.

Showcase Your Hobby Night
Students at CSS presented their hobbies to students, parents, family members, guardians, and guests on Wednesday, April 8.  Various hobbies were explained and demonstrated including archery, rock climbing, comic book collections, Lego creations, coin collecting and many many more. Please enjoy a slideshow of the evening's presentations!
Reach Out and Read Day at CSS
On Thursday, May 28, 2015, the PTA was thrilled to celebrate Reach Out and Read Day.  Readers included local business owners, civil servants, former teachers, parents and other interested community members.  The PTA provided a book for each reader which was then donated to the class with the intent that students realize that reading is not only important, but fun!  Thank you to all of the wonderful readers who took time out of their busy day!
